Sara
Sara studied Massage Therapy at the Michigan School of Myomassology, and has been in love with massage since the day she started. After completing her program in 2002, Sara went on to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she incorporated her love of massage into an interdisciplinary social science curriculum, studying the effects of massage therapy on people suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and providing free massage therapy for PTSD patients in Detroit and Dearborn.
After completing her B.A., Sara enrolled in Beaumont’s Clinical Oncology Massage program where she learned specific techniques to help cancer patients rest, heal, and recover from chemotherapy, radiation, and mastectomy surgery. While employed at Beaumont, Sara worked in spinal rehabilitation, oncology, hospice and pediatric hospice.
In 2008 Sara began studying labor massage and support and is now a DONA-trained birth doula working toward certification. Sara currently volunteers with the Doulas Care program that matches low-income women with volunteer Doulas in their area.
Sara’s massage technique is a hybrid of trigger-point therapy, PNF, and Swedish Massage heavily influenced by her training in Myofascial Release. Sara is a flexible therapist and can offer either a vigorous massage and deep pressure or a gentle, healing session at your request.
Sara has been a nationally certified massage therapist since 2002 and has been with Essential Massage since May 2009.
If you would like to schedule an appointment with Sara, she is available Mondays in the afternoon and evenings and also on Sundays.
